The project "Comfortable in Chaos " is the work of Deo Sanni. It explores the intersections of body, identity, control and perception through tattooing and photography, treating the body as a dynamic, landscape ever moving and evolving through time.

The work of Deo Sanni is influenced by synesthetic perception; emotions and sounds are processed and translated into visual forms. The boundaries between inner and outer worlds clarify into a visible realm as an aesthetic intersection on the body. The self, the perception of it, the distortion of reflection immortalized on the surface of the form of another. The skin becomes a the intersection that reflects this dynamic interplay, inviting deeper engagement with the body’s landscape. How do we want to be perceived? How does it feel to have another perceive you…

"Comfortable in Chaos" aims to move away from a consumer-based approach to tattooing, instead placing focus on the individual response and moment in time. Rather then focusing on achieving an anesthetic goal, the focus shifts to how the experience of connection, finding a reclamation of one’s own body through giving up the control of perception to the outsider. How does it feel to move through a boundary which will change the perception of you forever? What are you leaving behind? What awaits on the other side… Ultimately the project questions societal norms of the perfect product and the tendencies to view our own bodies as such. The viewer is encouraged to reconsider their assumptions of tattooing/body modification and to engage more deeply with their perceptions of the body, autonomy and movement through time.
